On December 12, 2025, the SCOR Foundation for Science held a webinar titled: “Geopolitical risks on the eve of 2026 and Europe.” It was hosted by Pierre Sellal, Ambassador of France, Senior Counsel at the law firm August-Debouzy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fondation de France, former Permanent Representative of France to the European Union, and former Secretary General of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Drawing on his intimate knowledge of European and international affairs, Pierre Sellal shared his perspective on the geopolitical risks facing Europe as we approach 2026. His profound understanding of European and international issues makes him one of the leading analysts and most respected voices on these matters, which he addressed from both a historical and contemporary perspective, with all the nuances and complexities inherent to the current situation.

Pierre Sellal is a French Ambassador. He has devoted a large part of his career to European affairs, holding several successive positions in Brussels and serving for over ten years as France’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the European Union (until the end of 2017). He also held the two highest positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Chief of Staff to the Minister from 1997 to 2002, then Secretary-General of the Ministry from 2009 to 2014). He was elevated to the rank of Ambassador of France in 2008. Elected President of the Fondation de France in 2017, his mandate was renewed in 2021 and again in 2025. He chaired the association Le Siècle from 2021 to 2024. Since 2018, he has been serving as Senior Counsel at the law firm August-Debouzy.
