SCOR Foundation Webinar MultiCauses

On May 21, 2025, the SCOR Foundation hosted a webinar as part of the SCOR Chair on Mortality Research. Chairholder Marie-Pier Bergeron Boucher, along with research colleagues Cosmo Strozza and Elizaveta Ukolova, explored recent trends in the causes of death by analyzing all conditions listed on individual death certificates — commonly referred to as “multiple causes of death”. Multiple-causes-of-death data provides a more comprehensive understanding of the complex pathways leading to death.

Presenting the current burden of disease and major trends in multiple causes of death, the webinar also looked at new findings on their dynamics –  including accuracy, diversity, competing risk, association –  and the impact of these on mortality risks.”

Funded by the SCOR Foundation, the SCOR Chair on Mortality Research (2023-2026) aims to conduct groundbreaking demographic research in the fields of mortality and longevity, with a particular focus on multiple causes of death, multi-morbidities, and mortality forecasting. The Chair is led by Marie-Pier Bergeron Boucher, Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark’s Interdisciplinary Centre on Population Dynamics.
